Does Eero Work With Xfinity

Does Eero Work With Xfinity – Eero Installation Guide and Mini Review Eero has released two generations of Wi-Fi 6 models. For more information, check out my full review of the eero 6+ and eero Pro 6E. This post uses previous Wi-Fi 5 models, but the setup process remains the same.
The eero and eero Pro are some of the easiest home Wi-Fi systems to use. They cover your home with a secure Wi-Fi network, using multiple access points and automatic mesh networking. I have already tested the eero Pro with gigabit speeds and compared two different systems. Now let’s focus on the basic non-pro system and talk about how to set up an eero network. For this article, I’m using a 3-piece eero kit, but the setup is the same for any eero system.

By the time you unpack your eero kit and plug it in, you’ll want to grab your smartphone. The only way to set up and manage the eero system is through the smartphone app. The bad news for nerds is that there is no web interface option. The good news for everyone else is that the mobile app is very easy to use. If you have an iPhone, go to the App Store, if you have an Android phone, go to the Google Play Store and download the eero app.
A Few Devices And Services For Securing Your Smart Home
If you’ve never used an eero device before, you’ll need to sign up for an account. If you already have an account, press the login button in the upper left corner. The above screenshots were taken in real time during system setup. Note the time in the upper left corner – it literally took me 5 minutes. The hardest part for most people is getting the right kind of internet connection.
The most important thing to determine before setting up is how to connect eero to the Internet. This depends on the type of internet connection you have. The goal is to provide eero with an Ethernet connection to the Internet. I have Verizon FiOS which gives me a standard ethernet connection that I can connect directly to the Eero. This may not be your situation, but I’ll try to cover a few common ones.
When you have just a modem or a modem/router in bridge mode, all you have to do is connect an Ethernet cable from your modem to one of the eero units
Once you have connected your internet connection to the main eero device, you can proceed with the setup. You can choose your Wi-Fi network name, choose the room eero goes to, and add other eero units you have. Once you know how to connect the internet to the eero head unit, the rest of the setup couldn’t be simpler. You don’t have to be a nerd like me. It’s really painless and fast, which I don’t usually say about a consumer Wi-Fi system.

One of the most important things to consider when setting up an eero is where to put it. For most people, this will depend on where their internet connection is and the layout of their home. If possible, place the main ero as centrally as possible. If your internet connection is in the corner of your house, that’s fine too. The eero systems intelligently detect all these things for you, and the setup process notifies you if there is a problem with your destination.
My internet connection is in the far corner of my first floor, so that’s where I put my main ero. I placed the other on the other side of my 1st floor and the other on the 2nd floor. I found this gave the best range and speed. eero devices try to make every setting work, but it may take some trial and error to find what works best for your setup. Try to place the eero high and away from other electronic devices such as TVs, speakers, microwave ovens or other sources of interference.
Once you’ve added all the eero units to your network, you can switch them off and move them as needed. No need to go through the setup process again, just update the location in the app to know which is which.
A fun fact that proves how good the range is even on basic eros: I tried to take a screenshot of the “Your ero is too far away” error message for this review. I couldn’t do it anywhere in my house, not even at the other end of my basement or second floor. I literally had to get an extension cord and plug the eero into the other end of my yard. The Wi-Fi range is really impressive.
Wi Fi Mesh System: Bolster Your In Home Connectivity
After setup, you can fiddle with the eero app if you want, but your Wi-Fi network is fully set up. You won’t have to go into the eero app much unless you want to. There are several useful features and optional Secure and Secure+ services in the eero app. I’ve covered them in my other ero articles, but I’ll post them again here quickly.
The eero app lets you view devices connected to your network and gives you control over some important settings. You can specify your DNS server, enable UPnP, create static IP address reservations or port forwarding, and enable IPv6 support. There aren’t many advanced settings, but what most people need for their home network is there. You can also quickly create a guest network and share details with a QR code.
There are several experimental features in the eero Labs section. In this section, you can enable settings such as bandwidth management, local DNS caching, automatic QoS for video conferencing and gaming, or WPA3 support. These settings are in beta and still under development. You will be warned that enabling them may cause problems on some networks and some devices, so proceed at your own risk. One setting I recommend enabling here is band management. Band management increases the likelihood that devices will move from AP to AP as you go. This helps you get better speeds and a more stable connection. If you notice that one of your devices has a problem with band management on, you can easily turn it off.
In addition to network-wide settings, there are a few device-specific settings to consider. You can get notified when a new device joins your network and activate it. You have the ability to create device profiles that allow you to control what the device can do. For example, you can create a “kids” profile on a device, disable access to their devices at certain times, and block access to adult content. Blocking and filtering content requires a subscription to the eero Secure or Secure+ service, but other features are free.

The Secure+ upgrade provides all of the above, plus adds annual premium accounts for 1Password, Encrypt.me, and Malwarebytes.
Basic eero Secure services cost $29 per year. Secure+ costs $99 per year. Note that all Secure and Secure+ features are optional. There are no costs to maintain and manage eero like a regular Wi-Fi router.
If you’re tech savvy, you can do most of these things yourself with other tools. You can block ads by creating your own Pi-Hole DNS server, you can do most of the same parental controls on the devices themselves, and you can sign up for your own password manager, VPN, or antivirus solution. The good thing about eero Secure is that it’s a one-stop shop for all of these things, and $29/year is a fair deal for what you get with the basic package. This also supports the ongoing development of these features as things on the internet are constantly changing. For some people, one less thing to worry about is just worth it.
If you want more information about the performance of the eero system, I wrote about my experience with the new eero 6+ and eero Pro 6E. If you have a slower connection or only have a dozen or two Wi-Fi devices at home, you’re better off saving your money and going for a basic system. Eero Pro excels in more devices, faster connections and larger homes. Whichever system you choose, eero has a few things that stand out:

If you’re tech savvy, you might be a little disappointed with some of the features you don’t have in eero. If you just want good Wi-Fi coverage and don’t want to hire anyone or bother that tech-savvy family member or friend, buy the eero. They really are that good. If you’re not sure which system to buy, I’ve compared the eero, eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6 and eero Pro 6E here.
I recently gave my sister and brother-in-law an eero system. They have previously leased an Xfinity modem/router combo from Comcast, as have many people
