Nikon Capture Nx2 Download Free – A few weeks ago, we published an article comparing the free Nikon ViewNX-i and Capture NX-D utilities with their dominant alternative, Adobe Camera Raw, which is also the basis of the popular Adobe Lightroom Classic. But one of my main gripes with this duo was that none of the apps offered the full feature set. The recently released Nikon NX Studio definitely solves this problem. Basically, it’s a replacement for both apps, offering almost all the features of the pair in one program. Capture NX-D and ViewNX-i will still be available for download, but are unlikely to be updated to add support for new cameras or compatibility with future operating system updates.

NX Studio replaces ViewNX-i if already installed, but can work alongside Capture NX-D, allowing you to run both applications side-by-side if desired. Nikon Is Dropping Support For Viewnx And Capture Nx Programs
Especially compared to NX-D, NX Studio is much more affordable. Options bars are no longer hidden behind toggle buttons, expanding a new one doesn’t make the previous one disappear from the user interface, and conflicting options for the same control don’t appear in multiple places as they did in the previous app. If you’re only using a small group of the provided controls, you can also create a custom panel containing only those specific controls, making them easier to find.
And, unlike Capture NX-D, Windows conventions are now respected correctly, so you can use tab or Shift-Tab to switch between fields when entering values directly, saving your wrist from having to reach for the mouse or touchpad multiple times. . One slight downside is that while keyboard shortcuts are supported – for example, pressing the F key activates full-screen mode – there is no list of keyboard shortcuts in the otherwise excellent user guide, nor are they listed in the app’s settings. There are relatively few downsides to the new user interface. You can no longer undock and move panels to place them anywhere on the screen, nor can you dock them in different default locations other than the movie strip. By default, this is a horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen, but can be changed to a vertical column on the left screen instead.
You can no longer detach panels, but you can customize the workspace with user-selected palettes to suit your own workflow.

The navigation bar, file and album controls are docked on the left screen, while the histogram, settings, EXIF information, and keyword tools are located on the right side of the screen. Both of these sidebars can be easily resized or hidden with a single click of the arrow buttons located in the center. The Movie Strip does not have a similar button to hide it, but you can hide it by dragging it down when resizing.
Given that ViewNX-i had a rather reduced set of editing controls, I’m betting that most users will move from Capture NX-D. For the most part, NX Studio’s editing controls are identical to this app, although it adds Color Booster controls from ViewNX-i along with NX-D’s saturation tool, giving you access to additional methods.
NX Studio now includes support for XMP and IPTC keywords, including automatic addressing and labeling of Wikipedia data based on geolocation information.
But what else do you get when you upgrade from NX-D? The most important addition is probably the appearance of both XMP/IPTC keywords, allowing you to manually tag an image after import, view existing tags, and remove those that don’t apply.

If your images are geotagged, you can also semi-automatically add location-based tags by choosing from a list of location suggestions selected by the app, or even suggested location names via Wikipedia. Oddly enough, this feature is only available in map view, even though the “Exclude from location data” button remains visible, albeit inactive, in other views. I wish Nikon would fix this so they can click on any view you choose.
Speaking of map view, this is another new addition that allows you to view geotagged images in a selected folder or album on an interactive world map. You have the choice of map, satellite, hybrid or physical view provided by Google Maps.
The new map view can determine the location and direction of individual photos, display GPS track logs, and automatically geotag your track images.
Each individual image is displayed on the map as a yellow dot, while the current image is displayed in red. If your camera records the compass while you are capturing, that direction is also indicated on its tip when you select it, as shown in the screenshot at top left, but not otherwise.

If the camera itself or a compatible device records an NMEA or GPX track log, these can be imported and displayed as a red track line. And once imported, they can be used to roughly geotag selected images based on the time they were captured compared to the time recorded in the log.
Another new addition is movie support, both in terms of playback and basic editing. The editing function allows you to quickly cut the beginning and end of a clip or merge several files together.
You can also merge multiple video clips and images to create a new file with titles, titles and music overlays. However, there are only three transition effects, three still image durations (with additional motion effects), and three short music samples.
