Business School Partners. For Victoria Weaver Servani, a full-time employee and mother, the reason is the flexibility of Penn State’s online MBA program.
Working at Johnson & Johnson during the Covid-19 vaccine rollout and raising her four young children gave her the opportunity to earn an MBA — two boys and two girls between the ages of 6 and 12.
“The biggest challenges I faced were transitioning from home to working full-time, supporting four elementary school students simultaneously as a virtual student, and juggling my own classroom load. Every morning I felt like I was at the bottom of Mount Everest when I thought about what I had to accomplish throughout the day,” Cerveni said.
“I had to take life moment by moment and focus on the task at hand, not to push myself. Each day we found our way as a family, tweaking routines until we found something that worked. Mixing family time with my work and school time made my schedule flexible. I learned to manage my expectations of what I could achieve every day,” she said. “Looking back, the pandemic changed me for the better. I’m a very relaxed parent, when things don’t go as expected, I’m calm and much more relaxed than I used to be.”

As strategic operations manager at Johnson & Johnson, Cerveny is responsible for the strategic leadership and technical development of J&J’s customer healthcare supply chain engineering teams. In this role, he assists with problem solving and root cause analysis, leads competency development, and manages strategic programs that help engineers do their jobs.
In October, he was asked to join Janssen’s COVID-19 vaccine as part of the vaccine audit technical training team. According to Johnson & Johnson’s website, the company distributed approximately 100 million doses of its single-dose COVID-19 vaccine in the first half of 2021.
Cerveni said his team aims to help distribute the vaccine by pooling resources and preparing materials to be used during medical screenings.
Cerveni, who graduated from Towson University in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in biology, previously worked as part of Johnson & Johnson’s supply chain technical leadership development program. In this position, he was first exposed to the business world and became interested in subjects such as finance and business strategy, so he decided that he wanted to learn more by obtaining an MBA.

“I knew that earning an MBA would positively impact my career path and make me more competitive for management positions,” Cerveni said. “I chose Penn State’s online MBA program because of the excellent reviews of the online program and its high level of flexibility.
As a full-time Johnson & Johnson employee and mother of four, she said the program gives her the flexibility to manage her priorities. The Penn State Online MBA, administered by the Smile College of Business and delivered online through the Penn State World Campus, provides just that.
Cerveny noted how the program allows him to review course materials and view class notes at a time of his choosing. Additionally, as a Landsdale resident, Servani said she appreciates the time savings of not having to travel to an on-campus location.
“I like that there is no set time to complete the program,” Cerveni said. “I can take one or two classes at a time and even take time off in the summer to spend time with my family. I never would have gotten this MBA because of the amazing flexibility of Penn State’s online MBA program.”
News And Features
When the pandemic hit last March, she and her husband adjusted to working from home while her four children — ages 6, 8, 10 and 12 — began virtual education.
Not only has the global health crisis claimed her position at Johnson & Johnson, but she is now taking on a new role as an “elementary school teacher” as her children are homeschooled.
“Being a part of Penn State’s online MBA program gave me a great start to learn how to better use Zoom and other virtual collaboration skills,” Cerveni said. “The lessons learned from the team productivity class were very useful for working in a virtual team, because the team I was working with suddenly became virtual. When my children’s school moved to Canvas as their learning platform, I was ready to help.”
Due to these family commitments, Cerveny took the last two seasons off to “make the difficult times as easy as possible”. Like many other families who have gone through it, adjusting to the pandemic has been difficult for Cerveni, she said, but she also describes it. A time of great personal growth.

Penn State Online MBA Managing Director Stacey Dorang Peeler said from the moment she met Cerveny in residence in January 2019, she knew Cerveny had the drive and work ethic to make the program a success.
“As a woman in STEM, she was no stranger to performing well in challenging environments,” Dorang Peeler said. “From our first conversation, I knew his commitment to Penn State would be no different.”

“Students like Victoria are living examples of why we are so committed to providing flexible experiences that allow students to take breaks when they need to, and then continue to pursue their goals whenever possible.
